Add a Microsoft Hyper-V Server resource location

Microsoft Hyper-V Server is a hypervisor-based, server virtualization solution that improves server utilization and minimizes operating expenditures. It contains the Windows hypervisor, a Windows Server driver model, and virtualization components.

Important: If your Hyper-V resource location is behind a firewall, you need to deploy a Microsoft Windows server within your resource location to act as a connector between Smart Tools and your resource location. You install the Citrix Smart Tools Agent on this server to enable Smart Tools to communicate with your resource location.

For more information about connectors and the Citrix Smart Tools Agent, see Agent and connector requirements

To add a Microsoft Hyper-V Server resource location:

  1. From the Citrix Smart Tools menu bar, click Resources & Settings.
  2. On the Resource Locations page, click Add Resource Location.
  3. Select the Microsoft Hyper-V Server resource location, click Next, and perform the following actions based on your requirement:

To download and install the Smart Tools agent for the first time or prepare a new machine as a connector:
    1. Select the operating system for your machine and click Download Agent.
    2. Locate the agent package you downloaded and install it on the machine you prefer to use as a connector.
The installation procedure varies between operating systems. For detailed information on installing the agent in different operating systems, see Methods for installing the Citrix Smart Tools Agent. After the agent is installed, it registers the server with Smart Tools. The registration process is not immediate and might take a few minutes. Once the server registration is complete, you will receive an email notification to your registered email account. After registration, you can continue setting up your resource location.
    3. Click Next.
    4. In the Machines with Agent Installed box, select a machine and click Use Selected Machine as Connector. Citrix Smart Tools installs additional software on the server to enable it to perform as a connector.
Note: If the machine you want to select has registered with Citrix Smart Tools but does not yet appear in the server list, the list might need to be refreshed.
    5. On the Hyper-V setup page, enter the details of your resource location such as Name, host, Windows Domain, Username, and Password.
    6. Click Add
Citrix Smart Tools verifies the resource location details you provided and adds the resource location to your account.
    7. Click Done to return to the Resource Locations page.

To use an existing machine, with the agent installed to it, as a connector:

    1. Select Use existing machine that has Smart Tools Agent on it.
    2. click Next.
    3. In the Connector box, search or select the registered server.
To select another machine that has the agent installed and prepare it as a connector, click Select other machines to be connector. In the Machines with Agent Installed box, select the registered server and click Use Selected Machine as Connector. Citrix Smart Tools installs additional software on the server to enable it to perform as a connector.
Note: If the machine you want to select has registered with Citrix Smart Tools but does not yet appear in the server list, the list might need to be refreshed.
    4. Enter the details for your resource location such as Name, host, Windows Domain, Username, and Password.
    5. Click Add
Citrix Smart Tools verifies the resource location details you provided and adds the resource location to your account.
    6. Click Done to return to the Resource Locations page.

The added Microsoft Hyper-V Server resource location appears in the list on the Resource Locations page.
