Quick Start: Create a XenApp and XenDesktop proof-of-concept deployment

One of the quickest ways to get acquainted with the basics of Citrix Smart Tools is to create a small, simple deployment. To get started, you can download guides that take you step-by-step through creating a proof-of-concept deployment using Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop and Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Citrix XenServer.

What is covered in the guides?

For AWS, you will learn how to:

  • Set up an AWS account and create access keys.
  • Add the AWS account to Smart Tools.
  • Configure a predefined blueprint that deploys a domain controller, Delivery Controller, and Server VDA.
  • Deploy a bastion host to access the servers in your proof-of-concept.

For XenServer, you will learn how to:

  • Prepare a machine to be a connector, so Smart Tools can communicate with XenServer through your firewall.
  • Prepare a virtual machine template, so Smart Tools can provision the machines in your proof-of-concept.
  • Add your XenServer deployment to Smart Tools.
  • Configure a predefined blueprint that deploys a domain controller, Delivery Controller, and Server VDA.

What do I need to have before I get started?

You will need the following items to deploy your proof-of-concept:

  • Access to Smart Tools. To request access, go to http://citrix.cloud.com. (Citrix ID required)
  • To deploy on AWS, you will need an AWS account. To create an AWS account, go to http://aws.amazon.com.
  • To deploy on XenServer, you will need a working XenServer deployment in your network environment.

Access to XenApp and XenDesktop software is provided within Smart Tools as part of the blueprint deployment process.
